Regional volleyball pairings

The IGHSAU released the regional pairings Friday. Evidently, there are no longer anything called districts. It’s all regionals now.

If the brackets go true to form, here is your state-tournament field:

CLASS 4A: (1) West Des Moines Valley, (2) Johnston, (3) Ankeny, (4) Iowa City West, (5) Cedar Rapids Kennedy, (6) Dubuque Hempstead, (7) Cedar Rapids Prairie, (10) Bettendorf. Note: MVC 4, CIML 3, MAC 1.

CLASS 3A: (1) Mount Vernon, (2) Sioux City Heelan, (3) Marion, (4) Algona, (5) Winterset, (6) West Delaware, (9) Fairfield, (14) Williamsburg. Note: That’s four teams from the Wamac.

CLASS 2A: (1) Western Christian, (2) Dike-New Hartford, (3) IKM-Manning, (4) Carroll Kuemper, (6) Lake Mills, (7) Pella Christian, (8) Camanche, (12) Underwood. Note: Western Christian is the two-time defending champ.

CLASS 1A: (1) Wapsie Valley, (2) Don Bosco, (3) New London, (5) Preston, (6) Exira, (9) Schaller-Crestland, (10) Twin Cedars, (15) Galva-Holstein. Note: Wapsie Valley has won two straight 1A titles.

Tournaments start Oct. 20.
