Omet Kak, a senior at Des Moines North, and Whitney Westrum, a senior at Waukee, were named the outstanding high school boys’ and girls’ performers at the Drake Relays.
Kak opened the Drake Relays on Thursday by capturing the 3,200-meter run in 9:19.71 and then came back on Saturday to win the 1,600 in 4:19.43.
Westrum was one of the most versatile performers in the high school girls’ division. She ran the anchor leg on Waukee’s 1,600 relay which set a Drake Relays record and an Iowa all-time best of 3:50.21.
She also ran legs on Waukee’s winning 400 relay (48.72) and sprint medley relay (1:46.73) and placed sixth in the girls’ 100.
