Brad Randall, who coached Solon to an undefeated season and a Class 2A state championship in boys’ basketball, was selected the 2A state coach of the year by the Iowa Basketball Coaches Association.
Randall, 48, is 274-89 in 16 years at Solon, including 28-0 last season.
Area coaches to earn substate coach-of-the-year honors were Bob Fontana of Cedar Rapids Kennedy, Chris Robertson of Linn-Mar and Steve Bergman of Iowa City West in 4A, Larry Carlson of Benton Community in 3A and Rod Conrad of East Buchanan and Dwight Gingerich of Iowa Mennonite in 1A.
