Paige gets an offer from Iowa

Marcus Paige took an unofficial visit to the University of Iowa on Wednesday, and came home with a scholarship offer from the men’s basketball program.

“I’m pretty excited,” Paige said Thursday night. “I liked the coaching staff. It’s a great school. It’s the Big Ten.

“Of course I’ll consider (Iowa).”

Morgan Paige commits to Wisconsin

MARION — Morgan Paige didn’t expect to make a decision so quickly.

But, she figured after a visit to the University of Wisconsin last week, why wait?

“I just didn’t feel the need to wait,” Paige said Monday in announcing her verbal commitment to play women’s basketball at Wisconsin, beginning in the 2010-11 season.

Recruiting Web site: Barnes is No. 1

According to scout.com, Ames’ Harrison Barnes is the top-ranked boys’ basketball recruit in the country in the Class of 2010.

Barnes led the Little Cyclones to the Class 4A state championship in March. According to the Web site, Iowa State is still on Barnes’ list of 12 schools under consideration. The list also features Duke, North Carolina and Kansas.

Novak picks Minn.-Moorhead

Alex Novak of Clear Creek Amana signed a national letter of intent to attend Minnesota State-Moorhead on a basketball scholarship.

Novak, a 6-foot-8 senior, was a third-team Iowa Newspaper Association all-state pick and averaged 18.7 points and 11.3 rebounds per game.

Elgin to Upper Iowa

April 15, 2009

Center Point-Urbana’s Sam Elgin has signed a national letter of intent to play basketball at Upper Iowa University.

A 6-foot-6 forward, Elgin averaged 17.8 points, 8.3 rebounds and 2.9 steals per game last season.
