DES MOINES — It was impossible to stay cool.
But when the typical early-race energy rush captivated many of her competitors, Moran Lonning did remain calm and collected.
Lonning worked her way through the field, then won the girls’ Class 3A 3,000-meter run convincingly at the state track meet Thursday at Drake Stadium.

Decorah’s Peter leads area boys
May 4, 2009Andrew Peter of Decorah leads area boys’ golfers with an adjusted average nine-hole score of 38.44, according to the Iowa High School Golf Coaches Association rankings, released Monday.

Peter, a junior, is rated No. 2 individually in Class 3A, behind Spencer’s Jay Monahan. Braden Gaal of Washington (Iowa) is third at 38.50.
Lisbon sophomore Tyler Gunderson is rated second in 1A at 38.45, behind Colin Weaver of Griswold.
Washington and Decorah are ranked second and third in the 3A team list, behind Spencer. Western Dubuque and Mount Vernon are fifth and sixth.
Carroll Kuemper is No. 1 in 2A, Grundy Center heads the 1A ratings. HLV and Turkey Valley are fourth and fifth in 1A.
