Clark repeats in Drake boys’ shot put

DES MOINES – Quite a week. And quite a cheek.

Marion’s Drew Clark successfully defended his shot put title at the Drake Relays Thursday. He did so convincingly, with a heave of 61 feet, 1 inch.  (more…)

Clark lets one fly

Marion’s Drew Clark climbed to No. 6 on the all-time Iowa shot put list with a heave of 63 feet, 7 inches, Tuesday at Cedar Rapids Prairie.

According to the IHSAA’s Bud Legg, it’s the best throw in Iowa since 2004 and ranks eighth in the United States this season.

Boys’ track ’09: Athletes to watch

DREW CLARK, sr., Marion — The Class 3A runner-up in the shot put and a fourth-place finisher in the discus. Won the shot at the Drake Relays.

KEVIN DIBBERN, sr., Iowa City High — The Class 4A 400-meter champion. Also finished fourth in the 200.

RONNIE HENDERSON, sr., Cedar Rapids Washington — The Class 4A runner-up in the 100- and 200-meter dashes last year. A member of the 800-meter relay champion and third-place finisher in the 400-meter relay.

RYAN SANDER, jr., Cedar Rapids Xavier — Third-place finisher at state in the 3A 110-meter hurdles, sixth in the high jump and shuttle hurdle relay.

KYLE SLAYMAKER, sr., Cedar Rapids Kennedy — A four-event state placewinner last year, including three relays (third in the 3,200-meter relay and medley, fifth in the 1,600-meter relay). Finished fifth in the 800.

NICK SYNAN, sr., Iowa City Regina — Placed fourth in the Class 2A 1,600-meter run and eighth in the 3,200.

ERIC THIEN, sr., Tipton — Third-place finisher in the Class 2A 3,200-meter run and eighth in the 1,600. Won the 2A state cross country title last fall.

KYLE THORESON, jr., Alburnett — Third-place 1A finisher in the 400-meter relay, sixth in the 200 and seventh in the 800 relay.
