CEDAR RAPIDS — Miss Iowa Basketball Amanda Zimmerman, who began her basketball career at Alburnett, returns to Eastern Iowa this weekend as the headliner for the Iowa Girls Coaches Association/Gatorade all-star basketball games.

The six-game series begins at 1:15 Saturday afternoon at the Hennessey Recreation Center on the Mount Mercy College campus.
Class 1A and 2A players will compete Saturday, 3A and 4A on Sunday.
The 1A-2A Select game is 2:45 Saturday; the 3A-4A Select game is 2:45 Sunday.
One hundred twenty-two players — all seniors — have been invited to compete.
Zimmerman, who moved from Alburnett to Huxley before beginning high school, led Ballard to four state tournaments, including the Class 3A state championship in March. She will attend Iowa State University.
Other players of note include Jaime Printy of Linn-Mar, an Iowa recruit, Katie Schechinger of 2A state champion IKM-Manning and 1A all-tournament captain Katie Eiben of Springville. (more…)
