So much for the skid

Linn-Mar’s 24-game losing streak? History. Washed away, like just about everything else at Armstrong Field.

The Lions dominated Dubuque Senior, 24-6, scoring three touchdowns in the second quarter. Jer Garman, Will Roth and Nic Schirmer reached the end zone as the Lions took a 21-0 halftime lead, then coasted from there.

Garman’s a tough sophomore. He rushed for 195 yards.

For nearly three years, we’d written it: The Lions’ previous win was a 24-14 victory over Cedar Rapids Jefferson on Sept. 30, 2005. Now we can forget that fact.

The Lions’ previous win was Friday.

The emotion, the relief, was apparent. It was Metro Youth Football night, and a lot of little boys rushed the field when it was over. The players were jubilant. Some collapsed to the ground. A couple wept.

There was no Gatorade shower for new coach Bob Forsyth. None was necessary.

He was already soaked.
