The neighborhood border brawl between Cedar Rapids Kennedy and Cedar Rapids Xavier tonight has serious title implications in the MVC Mississippi Division.
Kennedy (14-3, 10-3) is the second-hottest team in the league (behind Linn-Mar, of course). The Cougars have won six straight games and 12 of their last 13. They defeated Xavier, 52-44, Dec. 19 at home in the final game they played without Jade Rogers.
Xavier (12-6, 9-4) has been up and down. The Saints have lost two of their last three, but one of those losses was a game against Linn-Mar that they led after three quarters. A win tonight would put the Saints in a first-place tie with the Cougars — and give Xavier the edge because it plays its final two MVC games at home.
