Sigourney coach returns to bench Friday

Jenny Hobbs’ school-imposed suspension was cut from four games to three, and the girls’ basketball coach at Sigourney High School will be on the bench tonight when the Lady Savages play at Keota.

Hobbs was disciplined after making unflattering comments toward the school administration on the radio Jan. 17. She was unhappy that her team had to play a Saturday game at 2 in the afternoon.

Hobbs said she didn’t mention any administrators by name, and said that they “were lazy” by scheduling the afternoon game.

“I’m pretty opinionated,” she said Thursday afternoon. “I pretty much say what I feel.”

With Hobbs away from the bench, her team defeated Tri-County and Iowa Valley, then lost to Knoxville, a ranked 3A team, 61-39, Saturday. It was the first loss of the season for the Savages (18-1).

“It was pretty painful not being there,” she said.

Sigourney has wrapped up the South Iowa Cedar League title and concludes the regular season at BGM on Tuesday.
