Girls’ bkb 2009-10: First preseason rankings

I have a formula (sort of) for doing this, one that is made much easier these days with Quik Stats. It deals with this year’s W-L record and the percentage of points a team has returning for the following season. I fudge a little on tradition and past success.

    Interesting selections in girls 1A.
Why would you put Kadie Subbert and Stanton ahead of Essex and Sidney?
Essex is losing Emily Wendstrand, but Joce Coleman is one of the best in the state right now. Likewise, Aimee Osborne and the Sidney Cowgirls nearly took the season away from Essex in the district semi final, with Sidney ahead by 7 with 3 minutes left.
I look for Sidney to be a big suprise next season, returning Aimee Osborne, ALSO a unanimous selection for the corner conference, for the 2nd year in a row, leading the cowgirl underclassmen to the top.
It will be fun to watch.

Nice work, Jeff. Keep it up!

Do you take into account schools that will be merging next year, or sharing athletic programs? Battle Creek – Ida Grove (2A), for instance, will begin whole grade sharing with Odebolt-Arthur (1A) this fall.

If not, I don’t blame you. I assume that would be a difficult task. But I just thought I would run that by you. I would guess, at least for girls’ and boys’ basketball, BCIG/OA will be pretty strong.

I didn’t take into account any of the Odebolt-Arthur kids. Do they have any good ones to add to the mix? (I imagine they would.) The school will be 2A, I believe. Are they still going to call it OA-BCIG? I hope they can come up with something better…

  8. Kyle Payne Says:

We’re in agreement about the name. Can you imagine cheering for OA/BCIG? Turn that into a chant… I think that’s the plan, though, for now.

I will check on OA’s teams. I’m not familiar with their student athletes or who will be back next year. But let me check – I’ll get back to you if it might influence the rankings at all. In any event, they will certainly have more depth as a 2A school.

  9. jtlinder Says:

Odebolt-Arthur loses its top two scorers, returns pretty much everything else. Is this arrangement a done deal? If so, OA/BCIG moves way up … maybe all the way to the top. I think the IKM-Manning merger is proof that these things can work out remarkably well, and 2A isn’t going to be super strong next year.

  10. jtlinder Says:

What’s the nickname/mascot going to be??

  11. Kyle Payne Says:

From the whole grade sharing contract on the school district website: “The high school and middle school will be named OA-BCIG, the mascot will be Falcons, and the school colors will be Black, Purple, and Silver.”

The contract is set to begin July 1, 2009.

If you’re interested, you might contact BCIG – I sent a note to the high school principal (and girls’ coach) about the pre-season rankings. He might be able to share more info on what the team will look like next year.

  12. jtlinder Says:

Rankings are updated reflecting the merger. Thanks for the tip.
