CEDAR RAPIDS — Kristen Hahn could keep a secret no longer.
“I kept it quiet during basketball season, but I thought it was time to get it off my chest,” said the all-state volleyball player from Cedar Rapids Kennedy.
The state leader in digs, Hahn said Wednesday that she has orally committed to play at Iowa State University, beginning in the fall of 2010.
“The competition level in the Big 12 (Conference) is phenomenal,” Hahn said. “Their coaching staff knows how to work with defense.”
Iowa State reached the regional finals of the NCAA tournament last season — its deepest run in school history — and finished 22-13.
Hahn, who picked ISU over Northern Iowa, said she was offered a three-year scholarship, meaning she will compete as a walk-on as a freshman, then most likely have a free ride for three years.
The 5-foot-4 junior averaged 7.3 digs per game as Kennedy went 34-8 and reached the Class 4A semifinals at the state volleyball tournament in November. The Cougars have most of their weapons back for 2009.
Hahn was one of eight players, and the only libero, to be named to the Elite all-state team.
