DES MOINES — Jesse Ney scored 27 points, and Iowa Mennonite shot 59 percent from the field in an 81-71 win over Laurens-Marathon in the Class 1A consolation game at the boys’ state basketball tournament Friday morning at Wells Fargo Arena.
“I don’t think we needed any motivation, but we did need a little time to get our heads into it,” Ney said.
IMS (26-2) broke open the game in the second quarter and led, 35-26, at halftime. IMS made 16 of 24 field goal attempts in the second half and kept the Chargers (22-4) at arm’s length.
Truman Shetler added 18 points — on 8-of-9 shooting — and Danny Hershberger scored 12.
Five players scored in double-figures for Laurens-Marathon. Adam Woodin scored 17 points.
