Paige gets an offer from Iowa

Marcus Paige took an unofficial visit to the University of Iowa on Wednesday, and came home with a scholarship offer from the men’s basketball program.

“I’m pretty excited,” Paige said Thursday night. “I liked the coaching staff. It’s a great school. It’s the Big Ten.

“Of course I’ll consider (Iowa).”

Paige, a freshman at Linn-Mar High School, will begin his collegiate career in 2012-13. He received offers from Northern Iowa and Iowa State last summer. Creighton, Drake, Virginia and Wisconsin also are said to be extremely interested.

He’s in no hurry to make a commitment.

“I don’t really have a timeline,” he said. “I’ll probably wait until my junior year (to commit).”

A 6-footer, Paige averaged 7.3 points and 3 assists per game in his first varsity season. He scored 12 of his career-high 22 points as the Lions (23-3) rallied past Bettendorf in a Class 4A state semifinal. He scored eight points in the championship-game loss to Ames.

His sister, Morgan, is a junior at Marion and committed to the University of Wisconsin.
