Regals have the look of a favorite

Last year, Missie Feuerbach advanced to the state golf tournament as an individual.

This year, her team is coming along. For more than just the ride.

Iowa City Regina looks like the Class 2A team to beat as the girls’ state tourney begins Monday at Marshalltown.

The 1A and 2A tournament will be played at Legion Golf Course; 3A and 4A is at Elmwood Golf Course. The tournament concludes Tuesday. Tee-off time is 9 a.m. both days.

Regina’s regional effort of 341 won by 31 strokes, and was the best regional score in 2A by 23 shots. Feuerbach, the 11th-place finisher last year, was the medalist with a 77.

In Class 3A, Washington (Iowa) posted the third-best regional score (368). Davenport Assumption is the team to beat.

Iowa City High won a 4A regional at Gardner Golf Course and is the area’s lone big-school qualifier.
